Galley "La Liberté"Galley "La Liberté"
"La Liberté" galley proposes individual cruises on Lake Geneva from May to October. This wooden vessel, which was fashioned after a 17th century model, was built by unemployed craftsmen.
”La Liberté" Galley is at anchor off Morges. This imposing 55 m long wooden vessel offers two-hour engine-driven cruises on Lake Geneva. Equipped with two powerful engines, this galley has sailed the lake since 2002. It also sails, from July 2011. The people coming on board have the possibility to take part in the manoeuvres.
The galley endows Lake Geneva and the Alps with the atmosphere painted by François Bocion and described by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
The galley was built by unemployed construction workers, who took five years to complete it. 600 people worked in turns on this project designed by trade union secretary Jean-Pierre Hirt in 1992, in order to encourage and give dignity to those craftsmen who had fallen victim to the economic crisis of the Nineties.
