ViaJacobi – Worship and culture around Saint James
ViaJacobi, a well-known cultural Council of Europe itinerary, crosses the Lake Geneva Region from the northeast to the southwest. There are many culturally rich high places along the way.
The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain is one of the most important spiritual traditions in Europe. ViaJacobi is a part of St. James's pilgrimage. It crosses the whole of Switzerland from Lake Constance to Geneva along the foothills of the Alps. Aligned like pearls on a string, chapels, churches, inns and cultural places succeed one another all along ViaJacobi and guarantee magnificent walks. In the Lake Geneva Region (Vaud), Broye Valley, Moudon, Lausanne and several villages on the northern shore of Lake Geneva offer the possibility of combining culture and terroir. The Lake Geneva Region abounds in castles, abbey churches and cathedrals, which all contributed to the reputation of this itinerary.
