L'Île aux Oiseaux is an important sanctuary for many bird species.
Located west of the mouth of the Venoge river, the Bird Island is one of the very few migratory stopover sites on Lake Geneva for small waders.
Built in 2001-02 by the Cercle ornithologique de Lausanne (COL, association of public utility), in collaboration with ProNatura Vaud, this small nature reserve receives thousands of birds every year who come to rest here before continuing their fabulous journey of several thousand kilometres.
The Maison de l'île aux Oiseaux (MIO), a project of the COL, is open to classes and the general public. They can discover the ornithological wealth of the site and observe the birds present on the island.
Although there is always something to see, the best observation period is from March to September.
