Sentier de la Morges - From stone to castle
FOLLOWING A LANDSLIDE, THE PATH IS DIVERTED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE (20.12.23)
Between the Morges skating rink and Vaux-sur-Morges, the Sentier de la Morges follows the course of the river, passing through a variety of forests, past the foot of the Vufflens castle and alongside vineyards and pastures.
Thanks to 11 themed markers, observation games and missions to complete, you can discover the Morges valley in a fun way in the company of Jaquette de Duin.
You can return to the starting point on foot along the same route, following the miller Tudors on the "From water to mills" trail.
To return by public transport, take a bus to Vaux-sur-Morges or the MBC train to Vufflens-le-Château.
Timetable on: cff.ch
The Sentier de la Morges is also accessible from Vufflens-le-Château.

Morges
Its 17,000 inhabitants enjoy a pedestrian zone on the main street in the centre of the Old Town, which is home to lively open-air markets and shops. The restaurants here serve the wines from canton Vaud's largest appellation area: Morges AOC.
The city of Morges was founded in 1286 by Louis of Savoie. Its picturesque old port, which today is home to pleasure craft, was the largest merchant port on Lake Geneva in the 17th century.
The Chateau de Morges dominates the Grand Rue and the port. It is home to the Vaud Military and Artillery Museum, the Swiss Historical Figurines Museum and the Gendarmerie Museum. Its architectural style is carré savoyard and it served as the Savoie court's residence, then as the residence for the Bern Bailiff starting in 1536, until the Vaud revolution of 1798.
The city's annual Tulip Festival celebrates the return of spring with more than 100,000 tulips in beds remarkable for their colour, in the 30,000m2 of the Parc de l’Indépendance.
Summer sees the Dahlia Festival Quays in bloom along the shoreline in Morges.

Commune de Vufflens-le-Château
The castle of Vufflens, built in the 15th century, represents the most outstanding example of a small group of Vaud castles dating from the Late Middle Ages, above all characteristic because they were built of bricks.
This impressive building with its 60 metres donjon is a private property and unfortunately not open to visitors. But one can very well admire it from the outside.
An agreeable promenade of 30 minutes through the vineyards between Vufflens-le-Château and Denens offers a splendid view on this magnificent castle, Lake Geneva and Mont-Blanc. There is also the possibility to combine a walk with a train ride on the railway line BAM between Bière, Apples and Morges.

Castle of Vufflens (private)
Dating from the 15th century, Vufflens Castle is the most significant example of a small group of fortified Romandy castles from the middle ages, characterised above all by its brick construction. This impressive edifice with its donjon towering 60m, is privately owned and unfortunately is not open for public viewing. A pleasant 30 minute-walk through the vineyards between Vufflens-le-Château and Denens, offers a stunning view of this magnificent castle, the lake and the Mont-Blanc. There is also a possibility to combine walking and the train, with the MBC train, linking Bière, Apples and Morges.

Domaine de la Balle et des Abbesses
The perey family were already cultivating grapevines in Vufflens-Le-Château in the 15th century.
The domain has been passed down through generations and has grown during the years. As of 1981, Michel Perey begins to run a part of the family domain and dedicates his time, in particular to viticulture. In 1985 he re-creates a wine cellar and wine stocking, which had ceased in 1929. The Domaine de la Balle is born. In 2006, his wife Suzanne, opened a small “Pinte” (a bar in Switzerland) to enhance the domain’s products. In 2009, following their training to be cellarwomen and winegrowers, Solange and Lucie Perey highlight the magnificent Domaine des Abbesses in Echandens.
These vine and wine enthusiasts have the pleasure in hosting wine tasting at the Domaine de la Balle in Vufflens-Le-Château or at the Domaine des Abbesses in Echandens. Visitors are welcome during the estate’s opening hours or upon request. There are various packages offering wine tastings served with local products or even full menus. Certified by Vaud Œnotourisme (Vaud Wine Tourism), the Perey family offers these gourmet moments both at Domaine de la Balle and Domaine des Abbesses.

Commune of Vaux-sur-Morges
The Commune of Vaux-sur-Morges was formed from two hamlets, Grand Vaux and Petit Vaux. Stories of the past can be told here, such as the legend of the musician Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, who used to walk with his classmates in the Pétolin wood which dominates the village.
In the 1940s, another musician, the composer Heinrich Sutermeister (1910-1995), took up residence here. In memory of this illustrious citizen, the village square now bears his name.
Not far from Vufflens-le-Château, there is the possibility of joining the Sentier de la Morges along a didactic path that leads to the town of Morges. This walk offers a natural environment along the Morges river and is fun for young and old.
A second easy walk (6 km), "par monts et par Vaux", can also be discovered in the vicinity of the valley carved out by the river Morges.
The preservation of natural resources and the environment, the well-being of its population and a healthy economy are the main concerns of this charming commune of 200 inhabitants.
