Sauvageons en ville: Ô lac !
Past, health, future of our Lake Geneva?
The shores of Lake Geneva in Morges have undergone many changes throughout history. Around 4000 BC, the lake level dropped dramatically, revealing new land. A lakeside society settled there, living in stilt houses and practising fishing. Much later, Morges became an important military and commercial port.
Today, the shores are used almost exclusively for leisure, and our relationship with the lake has changed considerably. How are we connected to Lake Geneva, and why? Do you see it as a source of drinking water and fish, a place to cool off even in the city, to relax while watching a sunset, or as a tool in the fight against climate change? What positive and negative impacts do we have on it, and what is its current state of health? What do you observe when swimming—regarding aquatic life or water temperature?
Explore these changes with Marianne Chevassus, deputy curator at the Musée du Léman, and Nicole Gallina, Secretary General of the International Commission for the Protection of the Waters of Lake Geneva (CIPEL). Then, together, let us imagine what its future—and our relationship with it—could look like in 2050, with our feet in the water. All together: Ô Lac!
