On the water

Lake Geneva is magnificent and it is wonderful to swim or sail on it. However, the ecosystem is fragile and bad practices can harm the wildlife that lives there. In order to minimise the impact on animals, the best solution is to keep your distance:
  • Stay 100 metres away from reed beds
  • Stay 100 metres away from gravel islands and sandbanks
  • Avoid bird gatherings (they can feel disturbances from 1 km away)
  • Respect protected areas
  • When paddleboarding, remain seated so as not to scare the birds
  • Avoid the mouths of streams and rivers

In the pastures

If you are hiking in the countryside, there is a good chance that you will have to cross a pasture. Animals are cute, but they may charge at hikers if they feel threatened. It is important to follow these rules of conduct in pastures:
  • Keep your distance from animals
  • Keep your dog on a leash
  • Slow down
  • Close gates behind you

In the forest

Forests seem to invite us to lose ourselves in them, exploring every nook and cranny. However, we are only visitors, and our actions can compromise the lives of the wildlife that lives there. It is therefore important to follow a few rules:
  • Only light fires in designated fire pits
  • Stay on marked trails
  • Do not throw cigarette butts or any rubbish on the ground
  • Keep your distance from any animal you may encounter

With a dog

Dogs need to let off steam, but certain conditions must be met to ensure they do not disturb the surrounding wildlife. For these reasons, dogs must be kept on a leash:
  • In protected areas
  • In the presence of livestock
  • From 1 April to 15 July: in forests and surrounding areas

By bike

The Morges district has plenty of cycle paths that are perfect for exploring the region. However, there are a few rules to follow to ensure that you can share the road with other users without any problems:
  • Dismount your bicycle in the presence of cattle
  • Give way to pedestrians
  • Do not ride on footpaths
  • Warn other road users of your presence by sounding your bell
