The exhibition presents 90 drawings (30 from each) divided into three “territories”: India, Turkey, and Hong Kong
The arrival of spring marks the beginning of a new season for La Maison du Dessin de Presse, which highlights a cartoonist committed to their country who, through their work, denounces its shortcomings and fights for freedom of expression, often at the risk of their own freedom.
To this end, the Maison du Dessin de Presse collaborates with the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation, chaired by Chappatte, and Cartoonists Rights, chaired by Matt Wuerker. Every two years, each of these foundations awards the Courage Prize, in even-numbered years in Geneva (Kofi Annan Prize) and in odd-numbered years in Washington (Robert Russell Prize).
In 2024, the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation awarded the Kofi Annan Courage Award to Rachita Tanejad of India and Zunzi of Hong Kong. In 2025, Cartoonists Rights awarded the Robert Russell Courage Award to Zehra Ömeroğlu of Turkey. On May 4, 2026, the Freedom Cartoonists Foundation will present its new award on Press Freedom Day. It is in this particular context that we have chosen to exhibit the winners' drawings, so that the public can appreciate their aspirations, their work, and its implications.
The Maison du Dessin de Presse contacted the artists to ask them for a representative selection of their work. The exhibition thus presents 90 drawings (30 from each artist) divided into three “territories”: India, Turkey, and Hong Kong.
